We must never forget Foghorn Stringband: www.foghornstringband.com/Their CD's can be bought on CD Baby, and if you have iTunes you can get four of them this very minute with a click on a button. I can strongly recommend "Weiser Sunrise" and Rattlesnake Tidal Wave". I also would like to mention Boiled Buzzard who has been a great inspiration to our band, but they do not have a website and they no longer exist in the form they had with the great harmonica player, Dave Rice, but you can read a little about them on the banjo player's website: www.folknet.org/dan/recordings.htm Dan Levenson that is. Scroll down a bit to the two CD's Fine Dining and Salt and GreaseAnd they are both possible to buy on CD Baby: cdbaby.com/cd/boiledbuzzards2They still play though, but now with a fiddler instead of the harmonice. And that is good too. And for now I'll end with The Improbabillies. Also they don't no longer exist as a band. I think it was a one night stand. But man, what a band: www.improbabillies.com/And they too are possible to get on CD Baby: cdbaby.com/cd/improbabillies

Great choices Jesper. You guys have certainly made a great job of catching that Boiled Buzzard sound, well done. It's a real pity that outfit isn't still on the go, but without a doubt you guys are certainly flying the flag for that Tin Sandwich charged Old Time sound. They easily passed my FOOT TEST ..... I just couldn't keep my feet still! Those Improbabillies are a real tasty outfit too. Really enjoyed listening to their music. More CDs for my Santa MUST HAVE list! ;D Cheers Dick P.S. One thing worries me though! Why is it, those two wonderful Harmonica led Old Time bands didn't last? Is it because ALL Harmonica players just have HUGE EGOS? Ha Ha

I don't know about their egos. I can say that our Lasse, is a humble person who certainly don't walk around flashing his ego, though he has a lot to be proud of. He's the tradmark of our little band. We couldn't do without him, so I certainly hope that it's not a tendency that will rub off on us, that bands with harmonica players don't last I don't know what Dave Rice are doing these days, and Grant Dermody of the Improbabillies are not really an old time musician, but a country blues harmonica player from Chicago. If you check out their website, it looks like they came from different musical backgrounds, and are spread geographically all over the USA. The overall word for this record seems to be Blues. And I love it, as I love blues as much as I love old time.

Aye, and so say all of us! Yes Jesper, it was of course just a leg pull, cause I certainly enjoyed the few tunes with Lasse this year & that's how I know he is a gentleman, for sure, & a fine musician into the bargain. As for the Improbabillies, as far as I'm concerned folks can call it what they like, but to me it's just great music, plain & simple! Cheers Dick

Our ears are red with shame, because John has told us not to write about american stringbands in the european section, but one tend to forget when the going gets hot (or whatever) ;D I see that the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers have found there way in here. The youtube link are allready in the youtube section. Now we just miss them on the list in here. It can be a bit confusing sometimes, to find ones way around here. By the way. We have a section for european MySpace friends. Do we have a section for american myspace friends. We have hundreds of them and only a couple of hanfuls of europeans, if that many. So if we don't have such a section, I think we ought to have one.

You mean, to confuse folks even more! ;D Aye, but seriously Jesper, I've resisted that temptation so far, because I feel as we already have the Members Favourite American Old Time Musicians if I set up a Favourite American MySpace Friends board as well, where will folks post their fav U.S. musicians links? I think it could actually make things a little more confusing. I think it's safer to stick to the one board for our favourite American musicians. That way, it means we only have one board to check. There's plenty of space in there for folks to post their fav musos. I suppose I could add a thread in their for MySpace friends too, if folks here are desperate to have an American MySpace home, but after all, if you are posting a link for an American musician, you can always post their MySpace link instead of their website one. After all, this forum is primarily about promoting European Old Time musicians so I of course am quite happy to have the area for American musicians here too, that makes perfect sense given that this is where the music comes from. However, I would prefer to keep the European element here as the dominant one. As you say there are hundreds & hundreds of American musicians & let's be honest, there are also hundreds & hundreds of American websites. Rightly or wrongly, I'd like to try & keep this one as European as possible. Thanks for expressing your thoughts & ideas though Jesper, I really do appreciate any feedback. I'd be curious to know how other folks here feel about the idea & if, at the end of the day, most folks here would actually like to see a thread added for American MySpace friends, then I'll be happy to look at the idea again. I hope you understand my logic If not, I guess it's Pistols at Dawn! Cheers Dick

I'll return to the subject when I have heard it. And yesterday I ordered the CD The Sweetest Way Home with MAC AND JENNY TRAYNHAM. And looking forward to recieve it. I think it was otjunky who mentioned them. Correct me if I'm wrong. But thanks anyway

Have you had time to check out This Big String Band?
Well anyway, I liked what I heard on CD Baby, so I've added them to our list.
