I'm Thomas Bailey. I'm a lousy n'er do well from Virginia. I've been playing guitar and string bass in bluegrass and old time string bands for about 28 years(egads! I'm not a kid anymore, how'd that happen?). I took up the mandolin in my late teens. I began fiddling in my 20s after pretending to go to University. My fist gig in the UK was back in the mid 90s with "the Frenchman", Polo Bugiere and his better half Nadine Marinelli. I circulated among a number of dance and contest bands including one summer with David "Lefty" Wright and "The Reverend" Taylor Grover (of Forhorn fame) in a drinking binge called PADDY IS A GASPIG. Just before our livers gave out we recorded a cassette which went into immediate homemade distribution. Studio work brought me to New York City in 2001 and David Bass brought me back down home. We made a go of one band for three years before we reached the obvious conclusion to resurrect the Freight Hoppers (it was actually Frank's idea). My fiancee, guitar collection, clean clothes, books and DSL router are in New York and I am home for about ten days about every other ten days.

Hey Thomas it's wonderful to have you with us here. I have no doubt you will be able to add a much broader perspective to many of the discussions here, should they interest you. Cheers Dick

Hi Thomas, it's nice to meet you! I'm just another beginner oldtime player, messing around with the fiddle and the mandolin.
