Hi Ptarmigan My name is Tobias (duh!), I'm 29years old and live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I was trained to be an Comicbook artist/Illustrator in the US of A from 1998-2001. But after the last 6 years of being a struggeling artist with a wife and a wish to start a family, I decided to retire from drawing, and this year a stated to study Library- & Information Science. Which I am happy with. I high school I had a hiphop duo and made alot of electronic music, but as I got older, and hiphop got mainstream, I started to loose interest in this musicform. So I wandered the CDstores. Listening to Electronica, 70s punk, 60s rock...when a friend of mine played me a Tom Waits CD. I loved it, and was heavely into his music for some years. Then one day I saw this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Piu519CQxZs and the movie "Cool hand Luke" with Paul Newman. ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYqwYrbwHeM ) Wow...I wanted a banjo...so I bought one, and started to learn clawhammer. While learning I started to discover the music played with clawhammer banjo...and this discovery of Oldtime music has changed my life. I am pretty decent on banjo and play in the danish band Big Hungry Joe. Most of my practice time is used learning the fiddle...which has proven harder than the banjo...But it'll be worth it :-) Tobias

Hello Tobias, I'm glad you decided to join us.
There is a standing joke in Ireland for Banjo players who then take up the Fiddle, & there are a lot of them. They say that they have moved UP to the Fiddle! ;D
However, I too moved from Banjo (Tenor) to Fiddle, but despite folks saying the Fiddle is the lead instrument in Old Time, I just can't imagine Old Time Music without a Banjo in there & for me, a huge % of this music's character & rhythm comes from the Banjo.
Cheers Dick
