I live in Somerset and I am a FOAOTMAD member. In fact I'm currently the publicity officer but I hope to stand down shortly so I can spare a little more time to enjoy the music.
I play mandolin (meolody line not chords) and usually play a privately commissioned A style model made by a friend. I have recently bought a 1916/1917 A4 Gibson... as a spare! I also play guitar and am learning fiddle - to the disgust of our cats.
That'll do for the moment. Onwards....

Delighted to have you with us Nick.
As you know I too play melodies on the Mandolin too, but my instrument is only a folk one, made by Oakwood. Did you say you have a spare Gibson? ;D Your Cats might enjoy your playing more if you explain that the strings are made from Cattle Gut .... not Cat Gut!
....... of course you'd have to get them to take their Ear Defenders off first! ;D
Cheers Dick

Guitars tend to be cat friendly. Can you imagine my cat's reaction when I used to play bagpipes at home?!

Ha, not 'spare' as in 'spare' but 'spare' as in 'reserve'!
Mind you I might have a spare cat if the eldest (and daftest) doesn't settle down when I play!

Where does the 'Old Time Washbord' tag against my name come from. Not something I play and our washing machine might be old but certainly isn't musical.....

Hey Nick. The Old time washboard is a rank you recieve, when you write to the forum. The more you write, the higher rank you get. After washboard I was ranked Old time autoharpe, and recently I have been promoted to Old time Dulcimer. I wonder where it will end I can't wait to see, what instrument has the highest rank. Is it the fiddle? Or maybe Old time hammered dulcimer, as this is what Dick the head master of this forum has as his main instrument ;D

Yes guys, I just thought i'd be more fun than the boring titles they have at default on these forums. It also appeals to my young at heart approach to life, some would say childish! ;D
However, I'm not going to spoil the surprise by telling you all the titles in advance.
On a serious note though, it is also a way of reminding folks that there are more than just the usual standard instruments involved in making ye olde Old Time sound.
Cheers Dick

Hey!? What's happening? I didn't write "sthingys"! I wrote spoons. Since when has the name for the tool we use for eating soup become a dirty word?

Perhaps it's just a SPOONERISM! ;D
Aye, ignorance is bliss!
I must admit though, I've never heard of a poon, but perhaps some of our American members could enlighten us?
Maybe it's got something to do with that old mid-Atlantic language barrier! ;D
Cheers Dick
P.S. Old Time Kazoo, now that's an interesting idea! ;D
