Hey John, great lists of fascinating Books there & I'm sure lots of members here will do themselves a big favour & check them out, but how do you ever find the time to read all those books? I envy you cause I must confess, sad to say, I gave up reading around about the same time I found Traditional Music. There's just always another tune or instrument to learn, that's just the way it is for me. I often think that perhaps I should be a more multi-dimensional sort of a character, but shoot, we are what we are, aren't we. I'm just to lazy I guess, to swim against the tide! Cheers Dick

Hi Dick, I have always loved to read about music since my teens . And I love book hunting, specially now with the net. My reading tempo is 4 books a week. Depending of course how big they are. I practice 2 hours a day on the bass. And 2 hours on mandolin and banjo, just to keep my fingers in shape. As you say, so many tunes so little time. cheers, john
ps. I dont think that you are lazy, not with this site!! We will never play all the tunes and read all the books and love all the girls and so what? Let`s have some fun while we are on this this planet. A life to Live A God to Trust A wife to Obey A Pint or two A Song to Sing A Tune to Play And the Bill to Pay

A rare one to watch out for:
Songcatcher in the Southern Mountains by Dorothy Scarborough. From about 1930. About her trips in the Appalachians collecting ballads. Has just a touch of the 'Songcatcher' movie in it. She also wrote one about collecting Negro songs. I've been really lucky to pick up copies of both while trawling bookshops on visits to the US.
