I just heard that there was a bluegrass session at Derrykirk Inn in Co Antrim on the 28th - don't know if it included oldtime or not. I just wondered if any of our members went to it?

Nope, not me! I'm afraid I didn't hear about it until now. However, I suspect it was all Bluegrass. Here's the BIB Link with some info on it: BIB ~ Bluegrass at Derryhirk, Co. AntrimI notice too from the SESSIONS section of BIB that Broken Strings are now playing every Sunday night at the John Hewitt Bar, 51 Donegall Street, Belfast Might be worth checking out if you are in the area Dianne, although I don't see it mentioned on the Bar's website so I would phone first ... just to be sure it's still running. Another quote from the BIB Session Page reads: However, I understand that there is now an Old Time Session/Gig in Bittles Bar, Victoria Square, Belfast every Saturday night. The last I heard was that this is really a Gig for the lads, but I know they are all great musicians so it should still be well worth checking out Dianne, if you are in that neck of the woods. If you would like to be put on the mailing list for that session/gig, just let me know. Cheers Dick

Too bad more of the sessions in Belfast weren't on Saturday nights - it would make it easier to get to them when I have to get back to Enniskillen for work on Mondays!
Yes, please put me on the mailing list for the gig/session at Bittles Bar. If I know when they are coming up I might be able to arrange to get to Belfast for one.

By the way, who put down that I'm an old time singer?! I'm learning the guitar - if I tried to sing it would probably clear the room...singing definitely isn't my forte!

Is it a regular session?

Hi OT, The word I got on this, was that it was a gig, rather than a session .... so reading between the lines, my understanding is that it is not like a regular session after all, where everyone who turns up can join in. However, I'm very glad it is happening, because with any luck a regular type session could, with a bit of luck, develop from it. Anyway, it's great to have Old Time Music going on at all. Hopefully Dianne will make it along to one of these Gigs, & then she can tell us what it's all about! Cheers Dick P.S. Are you actually down the road, in Cork, yet?

I'm down the road, Dick!! Arrived in Cork three days ago. We're in a cold and lousy hostel waiting for Monday to arrive so that we can arrange for moving into an apartment (need some references from employers) I saw yesterday. Can't wait to get out of this place. But, despite the flu that I'm having since over a week, we're enjoying Cork, we've been talking to a musician whose brother teaches bouzouki, my husband has started his new job already and I've had confirmed that I'll have a job at Bon Secours hospital. So let me know about everything oldtimey that happens in Ireland!!

Yeee Haaaw! Great to have you guys in Ireland now. I hope you settle in quickly & have a wonderful life in Cork. I think I know that Hostel ... Your best bet is to keep a regular eye on the Blog, cause Richard is brilliant at keeping us all up to date with everything that's going on! Cheers Dick

Welcome to Ireland OTfiddler! It sounds like there's lots going on at that end of the country so you should be able to find lots of music. Don't know when I will get up to Belfast (I try to keep up on what's happening as I'm ever hopeful that I will get there one day!) but if I do, I'll report back on the gig at Bittles Bar.
