See these folks if you possibly can. They are mentored by Joe Thompson, probably the last of the original black oldtime musicians and replicat his material plus their own influences. Hi Dick, I thought you'd appreciate that. I'm planning for Bristol although there's a chance I'll be flying to the States the following morning so it may not happen. You can also download part of a CCD concert at www.archive.org/details/CarolinaChocolateDropshopefully someday all of that will be available Nick

Just saw the tour schedule this morning. I'm planning to get to the Omagh show. I wish it was sooner - it seems ages since I heard live music!

An afterthought...Wouldn't the Belfast or Omagh show be closer for you to get to, Dick? Derry seems a long way from North Antrim.

Dianne, from here, Derry is 1 hour away, Belfast 75 mins away & Omagh is about a 2 hours drive. Truth is, I'm hoping to go to both the Belfast & the Derry gig. Unfortunately, I work on Thursday nights, so I wouldn't be able to make the Omagh gig anyway. Cheers Dick

Did they give you any details of these gigs Haiku ... dates, towns, venues etc?
If so, I'd love to post the information here.
Cheers Dick

Unfortunatly not. It was a mail from Rhiannon Giddens responding to the mail I sent them : Quote We ARE going to play France in March, I'm not sure the exact dates, but they just aren't up on the website yet! Keep checking back for more details! End Quote From what I saw on differents websites, here are the dates: 11/03/2008 20h30 - El Mediator, Perpignan 12/03/2008 21h00 - J.A.M, Montpellier It seems they're heading toward the sunny south after the Uk coldness ;D : both these towns are roughly in the France south-west quarter. Not that close from my home (By experience I know it may be cheaper for me to flight to the UK than taking a train to there ;D)

WOW! CONGRATULATIONS to the Carolina Chocolate Drops they certainly rocked Derry's City Walls last night. Your right Nick, nobody should miss this show ~ it is absolutely brilliant. I'm just home from, easily, the best concert I have been to in years & years & years ..... perhaps ever! It had everything. Those guys are absolutely fantastic. ;D Not only are they all excellent musicians in their own right, but they work oh so well together & have a truly wonderful stage presence ... so natural .... & the crack between them & also the fun they had with the audience was a sheer delight. They had the packed hall eating out of their hands. I think I picked the best of their Irish gigs too, because I don't believe concerts can possibly get any better than that. I sincerely hope that the rest of their European tour is as successful as tonight's gig was. Haste ye back guys. Cheers Dick

Have a great night Nick. As for me, I must confess that I'm feeling just a little guilty that I was SOooooooo fortunate to be able to go & see this wonderful band, while some of our members here may well miss them, this time round. So, just for you guys who are going to miss them, here's a link to 74 YouTube clips of The Carolina Chocolate Drops..... ENJOY! ;D Cheers Dick

Bristol was excellent - although very loud for such a modest size venue. I think the sound man thought it was Glastonbury festival!. Almost 100 minutes with no break. Great fun.
