Can you tell me about any music schools for bluegrass or oldtime music? I know of the Sore Fingers Week and the Transatlantic week in Newport, Wales (I'm not up to the caliber for that one!). I'm especially interested in any in Ireland.
Thanks,
Dianne

Thanks I will watch for details of classes - too bad we don't have any week long schools like Sore Fingers or the Transatlantic School in Ireland.

Dianne, I'm sure there will be eventually, once Old Time becomes a bit more popular over here, but at the moment I'd say they'd probably find it hard enough to fill many, or any classes. Let's face it, this country is coming down with Irish Trad festivals nearly every weekend & most have classes, plus all summer long there are week long teaching festivals up & down the country, too. So the long & the short of it is, they're just not going to run week long classes until they feel that there is a big enough demand for them. In the meantime, we all just need to make an effort to get along to each & every one of the weekend classes that are run hear, to make sure they do keep running those .... & be patient. I must admit, when I started into Irish Trad, back in the early 70's, the World of Irish Trad was a very, very small one indeed, but now, 30 years later it is huge in comparison. Now, at least over here, Old Time is a very, very small community, but perhaps that's one of the charms of it, which attracts some of us to this music. Perhaps we should try & persuade Yellowbarber to stop off in Ireland on his way home & teach us a few tunes? ;D Cheers Dick

I intend to get to as many of the festivals/classes in Ireland as I can next summer (I live on a farm so commitments there can sometimes hamper me). I imagine you are right and the music will gain popularity over time - I just wish there were more of us around now! (always impatient haha!)
It's rather ironic, I'm originally from Canada and was into Irish music there - it was a rather small community surrounded by bluegrass and oldtime music. But I never paid much attention to anything but Irish music over there then I finally find oldtime and bluegrass when I'm far from it's origins! Couldn't have timed it worse I guess - and there's no chance of moving back to Canada again either.
It would be great if teachers from Sore Fingers stopped off in Ireland on their way home! I'd be the first to sign up for a class. (Who is Yellowbarber exactly?)
