Hey Susi! You said it !! ;D It's as simple as that ! I make my living making pictures, and my father was a painter. I have been surrounded by artists all my life. And sometimes when I hear artists in real life or in television pouring out a lot of philosophical bull, deep thoughts that I guess haven't even occured to them when they were painting their pictures, I often think, if their work needs all that explanation, why bother to paint it in the first place. Become a writer. Painting is another language. The same you can say about music. Playing with other people and experience the divine moments when you become like one organism, something you probably can't experience in any other artform, it is beyond words. If you need words for that, become a writer ;D

Yup Susi, me too, as I'm sure we all do here, but until this site becomes equipped with video conferencing services & we can all share a tune while watching each other on the screen, I guess we'll just have to content ourselves with talking about it. I suppose when that comes around, I'll have to stop checking this forum first thing in the morning, in my Jim Jams & a Cup of Tea. The fact is, I'm afraid I took the easy route, so while John bravely wrote down his own thoughts, I ran with the idea but simply copied & pasted instead! I must say though, I enjoyed reading your philosophical paragraph Jesper, while at the same time described such thoughts as "bull"! ;D But seriously, I suspect folks who write that kind of stuff probably don't actually play much music themselves, so instead they just try to understand what the heck it's all about by writing about it, a bit like Film or Book Critics. However, as you say, the best way to understand what it's all about is to just learn to play it. I just watched the antiques roadshow which mentioned Dickens this week & the fact that he died while in the middle of writing a book. This made me think of all those folks who work & save for their retirement years, when in fact folks like professional writers, painters & musicians just carry on doing what they do, until they are physically not able to do it any more, or until they die. Let's face it, for artists, retirement is not an option! I'm sure we're all the same, we don't really have a choice, we simply have to practice our art daily. I must say though that it's a pure joy to be doing something that I absolutely love doing & I have no doubt you feel the same way about your art Jesper. Cheers Dick P.S. Nice Avatar Susi.
